The Trend: Denim, denim, denim!
There are very few pieces of clothing that look good on everyone. Strapless tops? Definitely not for me. Flat girls cannot wear strapless tops – trust me (I’ve tried). Leather leggings? Sure, I’ll wear them if I want to look like I strapped 10 pounds to each thigh. But jeans? Everyone can wear jeans. Jeans embody egalitarianism: they’re for everyone! And they can be your best friend. A perfect fit and flattering wash can do wonders for any body type.
Just look at Momma Heidi Klum in bright, neon sneakers, and beautifully acid-washed, dark stain jeans by Hysteric Glamour. What’s great about this pair is their cut and their color. Boot cut jeans have yet to do anything but good for the female population. These jeans taper a little bit at the ankle, but they still remain your legs’ best friend as they lengthen and slenderize your legs. And who doesn’t want that?
Here’s Momma Reese Witherspoon strutting a pair of ripped up, torn up boyfriend jeans by Degaine. I particularly love this trend for three reasons: 1) boyfriend jeans look cooler after stumbling after kids and messing around in sand and dirt. Boyfriend jeans are supposed to look worn in and old. 2) Boyfriend jeans are comfortable. So often jeans or other pairs of pants are restrictive. They’re uncomfortable to sit in or they just don’t fit as nicely in some areas as you would like. But boyfriend jeans are delightfully baggy and therefore immensely comfortable because of the extra space and soft denim. 3) Boyfriend jeans match everything in your closet (and I mean everything). Reese Witherspoon paired it with a nice, satin blouse, but these jeans could go just as well with a plain white tee or a plaid button down.
Finding the perfect pair of jeans doesn’t have to be a wallet buster either. I found a great pair of jeans for a whopping $10 (yes, you read that right – they were only $10) at H&M. They’re weathered several trips to the washing machine and dryer without any signs of wear or tear. And that, ladies, is bang for your buck.
