Straighten Your Hair Like An Expert (And Win A Flat Iron!): Beauty Trend Focus

Wish you could get silky straight hair, without spending tons of time in front of the mirror? We have always had a fear of flat irons and straightening tools (they can damage hair or take hours to use), but loved the idea behind the Hana Flat Iron (from Misikko, which specializes in hair straighteners and the best flat irons around), because they focus on 100% ceramic irons (which protect hair more from heat and damage). Misikko even offers (cult favorites) Chi flat irons and FHI flat irons…so it’s up to you!

But if you want fast and easy results from your flat iron of choice, try doing the following…

* Protect and Preserve: Remember to always protect your hair against heat styling by applying a protection specific product first (and reapplying between strands).

* Hydrate At All Times: Even if you’re protecting your hair from heat, you still need to fight against dryness. We love the natural, moisturizing oils from Macadamia Natural Oil (the deep repair masque is like a facial for your follicles!)

* Turn It Down: When in doubt, try to use the flat iron only on areas that truly need it (“spot treat” your hair for a quicker styling process), and turn the temperature down as much as possible.

Want to win this Misikko flat iron? It’s easy…

* Join the Misikko Newsletter (for special discounts, offers and hair straightening steals)

* Leave a comment! Just let us know: “What is your number one hair straightening trick?”

Contest is open to US residents. Please leave a forwarding email address. A winner will be chosen at random (and announced on Makeover Momma) in 7 days.

I have the HARDEST time getting my super curly hair to stay straight but one of my tips is to use johnson and johnson’s baby detangler before I dry my hair and straighten it. It makes it smoother and much more manageable when I straighten!

I tried to sign up and got an error, I will keep trying, but did follow on twitter! My tip is to always make sure your hair is completely dry before you start to straighten and use heat protectors ( I love Matrix sleek look iron smoother)

I have a Revlon Wet to Straight flat iron. I like that it has 15 temp settings but it is so big it\’s hard to use on short hair. I have also noticed that if you use it on wet hair it still goes poofy when it dries. Blow drying then straightening is best for my hair.

I air dry my hair first (already somewhat straight) before going over just the top layers with the flat iron to make everything look sleek.

I have kinda straight sometimes frizzy not wavy not curly hair – and on top of that very fine! so i now blow dry my hair over my head using only my fingers .
then flip my head – slightly brush (not too much then there will be static build up) and then go over the top lay with a straight iron – Babyliss ceramic! love it love it – everyone is always asking what I did with my hair! Takes 9 mins all in all!

  6. Nikita says:

I notice that if I straighten my hair the same nighta s I was my hair even though it is completely dry..it’s never nice and sleek. So I wait until the next day to do it.

I have a blow dryer with a component on it to straighten. It is great, but not nearly the quality of straight that I get when I go to my stylist (which is VERY RARELY), and they use a straightening iron on it. It always feels so much softer and silkier, and I can actually comb through it without tugging!

Have never owned a straightener, but would love to be able to get salon style straightening at home!

  8. Bella Gomez says:

i have crazy curly hair but i use the conair 1875 styler dryer beccause its made for straightening hair and then i use the flat iron but i use the victoria secret so sexy smoothing shine serum. it not only smells good but helps make my hair shine and look healthy after i straigthen it.

I would love one of these! I use a blowdryer and round brush. It doesn’t work well and it takes forever!

  10. Amber says:

I have very coarse frizzy hair and could use all the help I can get. I would love the chance to try out one of these ceramic flat irons.
