Kimora Lee Layered Look — Fashion Spotlight

Layering can be the ideal way to flatter a post-partum body while looking winter chic (like celebrity mother Kimora Lee, above), but it can easily go awry (see Heidi Klum, above). Although model and mother Heidi Klum usually looks stunning in every outfit (ok, she still looks stunning), the majority of us mothers should shy away from clothing that are either see through or add bulk to our frames.

Do the layering look right instead with subtle layers of neutral colors: long, lean denim, soft brown boots or a cropped tan jacket. Layering a well fitted jacket over a long dark top is ideal for elongating any frame, and shielding our less than perfect stomach regions.

Try choosing a jacket that is sleek in shape and fit, like the Women’s Belted Twill Jacket in Khaki from Old Navy, or mix it up with a funky grey cape like the Juliette Wool Caplette from Heritage 1981 (which is extremely flattering to all shapes and sizes). Add more dimension to layering by adding boots or booties (like the Kate Ankle Boots from Target), looped scarfs, and soft beret hats. Always strive to keep the look winter weather appropriate (like Kimora) by pairing with classic jeans, lean layerings tops, and understated accessories (like sunglasses and a corresponding purse). And when in doubt…leave the sheer stuff out!
