We are obsessed with coffee (as most moms are), and almost think it should be counted as one of the essential food groups for daily living. However, coffee has definitely gotten a bad reputation over the years (and of course, caffeine should be avoided by any pregnant or breastfeeding moms). Real Momma Shanda sounds off on her findings about coffee (and why she is happy to drink more!)
What I Love Right Now: Iced coffee!
“YAY! Studies show coffee reduces your appetite, increases your metabolism, and gives you a shot of antioxidants. The favorite drink of sleep-deprived mommas all over the world is actually good for you (in moderation of course!) The Journal Physiology & Behavior found that the average metabolic rate of people who drink caffeinated coffee is 16 percent higher than that of those who drink decaf. Just order skim or low-fat milk, Splenda or another natural sugar substitute (and hold the whipped cream so you don’t derail your diet.)”
