The Workout: Dance and Be Fit: Lower Body Burn
What It Is: We wanted to check out this fitness DVD because it was designed to “give us the lean, long legs of a dancer” (and who doesn’t want that?). Plus, many famous mommas are using dance based workouts to tone and tighten their body, including Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow (shown above).
What You Do: This workout DVD contains two, 20-minute routines (perfect while baby is napping or dinner is cooking),targeted for hips and legs. We were skeptical about how challenging or fun this workout would really be (targeting one body part can often feel boring), but it truly left us feeling lean, long and toned.
How It Feels: Perhaps we’re biast because we happen to love dance-inspired workout programs, but the toning exercises (a mix of ballet movements and basic dance coreography) kept things interesting. Experienced dancers may find this DVD too easy (check out how to make it harder, below), but new mothers easing back into fitness will find this perfect. Plus, it doesn’t require tons of time (yay!) or any complicated equipment (not even shoes!) If you’re a mother who hates high-impact workouts, is dealing with an injury or simply wants a toning program she can do in her pajamas, then this is a great way to workout without exhausting or discouraging yourself.
Make It Harder: If you love bootcamp style exercise programs or are experienced with aerobics, you may want to increase the intensity by adding small ankle weights during the leg toning or doing the entire program back-to-back (for a total of 50 minutes).
