Get Shiny, Healthy Hair Like Kate Gosselin and Andie MacDowell: Revamp Your Routine

Would you ever give up washing your hair with shampoo for a month? The fabulous blog Gouldylox tested out the new Wen haircare system (which consists of washing your hair with a conditioner-like cleansing agent), and it gave us an idea.

We had Makeover Momma Editor Bailey abandon her usual shampoo routine for 4 weeks, and decide to wash her hair (with super affordable) Suave Conditioner instead. Did her get crazy shiny and super healthy? Or did everything become an oily mess? See for yourself!

Moms like Kate Gosselin and Andi MacDowell are sporting shinier, healthier hair…how would you makeover your hair?

    * Sound Off: Have you ever washed your hair with conditioner before? Would you ever try this?

I love Marc Daniels first aid for hair Go Straight and shiny. When I use it and on the rare occasions that i blow dry my hair, my hair doesn\’t become the frizz ball that it normally does, and it does look really shiny if I use it just after showering and let it air dry, it calms the frizzes and smells really good too.

I have never gone without shampoo, but I am definitely willing to try! Definitely love saving $, so that is a plus, as well!

I used to make at-home spa hair treatments from a recipe set that I got as a gift from a friend. It was nice to treat my hair to a little home spa treatment, and I wish I still had the time to do it more frequently again.

I haven’t stopped shampooing before but I have been going without conditioner for a while now. I have super thick, curly, coarse hair that I used to religiously wash and condition with Pantene Pro-V. However, that got really expensive (I confess that I am not a mom, I’m a college student… and therefore completely broke) so I switched to Suave Humectant. I love it! It’s super cheap (I think about $1.50/bottle), smells good, and doesn’t leave my hair oily or dry. I didn’t want to completely give up on Pantene so I bought one bottle of super hydrating leave-in conditioner that I use on occasion. About twice a week I rub a very small amount (about the size of two peas) through my hair after towel drying it and then just let it air dry. Whenever I try to do this everyday my hair gets really greasy, especially around my face. I’ve been doing this for about six months now and it has worked super well for me: incredibly cheap (I haven’t even gotten a second bottle of leave-in conditioner yet, after six months!), quick and easy (I rarely blow dry my hair or use any other styling products), and leaves my hair looking as healthy and curly as it was in my Pantene days.

I have tried this & Hair One (bought at Sally Beauty Supply). Although the Suave process had worked, I LOVED the way Hair One made my scalp feel, which was tingly. I too have thick, course and wavy hair and I’m ALWAYS looking for that 1 great hair conditioner.
