Please Ask For My I.D: Revamp Your Routine

Want to “turn back the clock” like the skin of moms Cindy Crawford and step-momma Sandra Bullock? Go for this…

Do you ever wish that someone would “card you”, just so you know your beauty creams are finally working? Corey sounds off on the most effective creams around (and works out some of her inner neurosis along the way)…

“I silently plead every time I place my order at a restaurant or grab a bottle of vino at the grocery store. This mental yelp is supremely ironic because a couple of year ago I was indignant when asked for my I.D. (“Who? Me? Obviously I am a mature adult drinking for all of 5 months… How dare you I.D. me for this strawberry daiquiri with extra whip cream and a chaser of Malibu?”) Whereas before I would skip the articles in the beauty magazines about looking young, now I dog-ear them to find tips to entice my server to ask me to pull out my wallet in exchange for a gin daisy. I have found three products, however (in combination with sunscreen of course) that have allowed me to again skip the “plump your skin and look younger with these products” article:

    * SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF: Totally a mouthful to say, but will make your skin full (full and glow-y, like your teenage niece who doesn’t appreciate the moonbeam skin that she has). Just a couple of drops every morning, and week later people are asking me if I had a vacation. What? Yes. The combination of anti-oxidants and topical Vitamin-C fight free-radical build up and provides ultraviolet photoprotection (in mommy terms: it looks like you had 8 hours of sleep!)

    * Easeamine Facial/Skin cream: This cream was discovered by the U. Mass. Medical School research scientists, and it gets an A+. Basically it contains adenosine, which stimulates the lowest level of skin. Our skin, however, replenishes from the inside out. So by adding extra adenosine topically, the dermis get super stimulated and increases both collagen and blood flow to the upper layers of skin (In mommy terms: additional nutrients and blood to the skin leads to healthier looking skin and improved color).

*Priori Age defying Body Cream: This cream (pricey, but in a huge bottle!) provides an environment for cells to repair themselves and protects from oxidative stress (which causes damage and pre-mature aging). For me, though, this is all secondary to the added bonus that it firms and tones. (In mommy terms: antioxidant, blah blah blah… but exercise-free toning? That I understand!)

The final thing that makes you look younger is the indigence that I get to have when loudly proclaiming, “I am almost 30- of course you can see my I.D!” (In mommy terms: time for a drink.)

Discover Your Signature Scent For Spring: Beauty Product Roundup

Moms (like Nicole Richie and Kathy Ireland) express scent and beauty in their own way… how do you?

Can scent really connect us to our memories? We have Real Momma writers Jenny and Corey test out these new spring scents, to see what memories they really evoke…

The Scent: Memoire Liquide Soleil  Liquide Eau de Parfum

    * Jenny says: “This fragrance is a wonderful blend of citrus, floral, and musk. Not too fruity, not too flowery, not too musky. Just enough of each of the three to achieve a balance of lightheartedness, intrigue, and romance. You’ll love it!”

The Scent: Memoire Liquide Vacances  Liquide Eau de Parfum

    * Corey says ” I grew up in South Florida and my grandmother’s house was between the beach and the intercostals, surrounded by blooming gardenias. The palm trees ripe with coconuts were soon mixed with warm vanilla, eggs, flour, etc. and turned into her famous coconut cake…Memoire Liquide’s Volume 1 fragrance (Vacances Liquide) embodies all of these elements and, hence, I cannot stop wearing it (I even spritzed my scarves with it, so while I am physically struggling through all of this snow, I am mentally sitting on my grandmother’s dock with a big slice of cake!).

I was intrigued by the Coe-now-Bakewell-and-Hutshing sisters fragrances, previously. They are all single notes worn alone or layered to create a personal fragrance that has this transportive element connected to personal scent memories (plus the whole self autonomy connected to “creating” your own fragrance is confidence boosting in itself!) The Vacances Liquide, however, blends my three most memorable scents seamlessly. What are your memorable scents? I’ll bet Memoire has a scent for you, and if not…they let you mix your own.

The Scent: Harajuku Lovers Sunshine Cuties

    * Corey says “Every knows that scent it closely linked to memories and emotions, so after this H-E-double-hockey-sticks of a winter would you wear a perfume called “snow flower” ? Out just in time, and following her successful Harajuku Lovers Snow Bunny line, comes the Sunshine Cutie line from Gwen Stefani. Gwen’s five Harajuku girls (Love, Lil’ Angel, Music, Baby, and G) have been reincarnated for yet another season, and with super cute bikini’s to boot-and empty bottles are super cute figurines for your own little diva to play with!

My favorite of the five this season is Sunshine Cuties Love (a fruity floral by perfumer Ilias Ermenidis with nectarine, passion fruit, lemon blossom, plumeria, osmanthus, rose, vanilla orchid, coconut water, sensual musk and sandalwood). Yum-just smelling it makes me believe that July is finally here!”

    * Speak Up: What is the one scent that connects you to your memories?

Match Your Moisturizer To Your Skin: Beauty Product Breakdown

Love the skin of moms like Demi Moore and Salma Hayek? Take care of yours with the right moisturizer…

Do you sometimes feel like finding the right moisturizer for your skin is as confusing as the right Pre-school (or organic baby food, or allergy free diaper, or total-body-covering prom dress) for your kids? We think so too. Luckily, Real Momma Tara investigated the latest and greatest in facials creams and lotions, to figure out what formula is best for you.

For Oily Skin:  “I’ve been using the Priori Cellular Recovery Serum along with my daily moisturizer for a couple of weeks and I am really seeing results! [Moms with very oily skin can benefit from using this in place of daily moisturizer, to balance the skin]. I am turning the big 3-0 this year and have noticed lots of fine lines forming around my eyes. This serum has helped to minimize those lines, as well as giving my skin a healthy glow. I’ll definitely incorporate this product into my “anti-aging arsenal”!

For Sun Protection: “Hallelujah! A high SPF sunscreen that doesn’t look or feel oily and greasy! I have very, very fair skin and wear the highest SPF I can find, which usually means a thick, heavy sunscreen. La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Sunscreen Fluid is as light as an everyday moisturizer and is SPF 60! I wore this under my normal make-up and it felt and looked as light as a regular moisturizer. This product is a lifesaver for us fair-skinned girls, but is great for anyone who wants to protect their skin from the sun’s ultra-damaging rays. Another bonus: it’s water resistant and fragrance-free!”

For Anti-aging: “It might have been my imagination, but I really felt like I saw results the next morning! I loved that Olay Regenerist Micro Sculpting Cream is very moisturizing, but not oily. I have extremely dry sensitive skin and it responded very well to this cream. Regenerist seemed to minimize the fine lines around my eyes and my skin still felt moisturized by morning. I also love that Olay products are very affordable and can be purchased almost anywhere. I’d definitely give this cream two thumbs up and will be using it as part of my nighttime routine!”

    * Sound Off: What is your dream moisturizer right now (have you found it?)

Sneak Sunscreen Into Your Makeup This Spring: Beauty Product Roundup

Jennifer Lopez and Kate Winslet have beautiful, protected skin… do you protect yours?

Want to sneak sunscreen into your makeup and lotions, without the greasy effect? Corey tests out some new products…

“I grew up in South Florida in the 1980’s. Which (aside from an affinity for oversize neon shirts pulled to the side of my hip with a scrunchie) means that I have way more sun damage than your average 30-year old. I actually fear my dermatologist more than my dentist. This being said, I am always on the lookout for products that can both help repair the damage I have already done as well as shield me from further damage. Here are two of my favorite that do both:

1.) I read this, “Approved for sensitive skin. Allergy tested. Mineral oil free. Paraben-free, Oxybenzone-free. Water Resistant.” Then the title of the product pops at me: Ahava Anti-Aging Moisturizing Spray SPF 15. What?!?!? Let’s break it down, Ladies.

    * “Ahava”: An awesome Lab that focuses on using Dead Sea Minerals
    * “Anti-Aging”: Pro-vitamin B5, to neutralize aging free-radicals
    * “Moisturizing”: Vitamin E, no better substitute for adding moisture
    * “Spray”: What?!?! Score! No gross hands!
    * “SPF 15”: I am sold. Done and done.

(The line also comes in SPF 30 and 50, so you really can’t lose with this stuff!)

2.) Physicians Formula Healthy Wear Tinted Moisturizer SPF 50 has definitely become my daily go to product. First, how much time does it save? Lots! Instead of putting on 4 products (anti-oxidant serum, moisturizer, foundation, and sunblock) , I only smear on a dab of the velvety blend and am good to go. Second, it contains a bonus mixture of black licorice and tomato derivatives to brighten skin and diminish the appearance of sun-spots. Third, I believe that the “SPF 50” says it all, and I am never left smelling like I am wearing SPF 50.

I am so in love with these two products this spring that I don’t even put them away when I am done; I use them both so frequently that I just leave them on my counter!

    * Sound Off: What sun protection product do you want to try the most this Spring?

Brighten Up Your Eye Area When You’ve Had No Sleep: 1 Minute Makeover

Want “wide awake” eyes like Jennifer Hudson and Isla Fisher? Listen up…

Has motherhood taken a tole on your eyes? Whether dealing with bagging, sagging or darkening of the eyes…let’s face it- teething babies, potty-training toddlers or rebelling teenagers are not our friends. Try “faking” a good night’s sleep by brightening up your eyes with these Real Momma panel tried-and-tested tricks…

    * Kenzo Belle De Jour Angel Eyes: “I must admit I’m new to eye cream, but I have had a wonderful experience using Belle De Jour Angel Eyes! This product is based around the white lotus flower (considered sacred in Asia), which is known for its relaxing effects. The feeling you get when you apply this cream (using the soft, gentle brush provided in the box) is truly relaxing and refreshing. I also thought it was interesting that it was shown (through scientific testing) to actually reduce stress hormones! I look forward to continued use to see if it will reduce the darkening under my eyes, and because I feel pampered and delicate with each application!” - Julie

    * Cover Girl Eye Shadow Palette: “I really like all three colors in this palette! They all come together beautifully to create a bright shimmering look to the eye. I have used colors in the past that almost appear dull, but these make the eyes look elegant and sparkly. I also found these colors to be diverse, in that I can create different looks with the colors to match various outfits and occasions.” -Julie

    * Cover Girl Lash Blast Mascara: “I love this mascara! It is definitely the most natural-looking, clump-free, smudge-proof mascara I have ever used.  I think the uniqueness of the brush design, with its bristles so close together and carefully placed, makes it so. I definitely recommend you try it out!” - Jenny

    * What is your number one trick for “faking” a good night’s sleep?
