New Momma No-Brainer

My daughter loves to wear her food.
In fact, contrary to popular belief, it’s my theory that her recent hair growth (as opposed to the endlessly bald head she previously sported) is due to the fact that most of her meals end up displayed artfully on top of her head. Needless to say, there is a lot of cleaning up in my house.
Yet, oddly enough, our messy toddlers might not be entirely off when it comes to eating food, and their tendency to “wear it”. As a teenager I remember making masks for my face out of healthy, organic foods: honey purifying masks, fresh oat-meal scrubs, avocado to moisturize, pureed carrot or strawberry….the list could go on and on. Meanwhile, I also had another picky-eating tendency growing up that involved dabbing my fast-food pizza with a napkin to sop up the grease and extra fat content. Looking back (and envisioning that dripping, greasy napkin) - it really makes me wonder…would I ever smear that on my face? Come to think of it, I would never want to make masks out of most of the unhealthy foods we eat: General Zhao’s chicken, the underside of a greasy, saucy burger patty, a glazed doughnut….it goes without saying that French fries and the like would have very little cleansing properties.
If we don’t want to put it on our face….then maybe we shouldn’t eat it! After all, the food is all going to the same place: what might help our face on the outside, will certainly help our body, organs, health, and skin from the inside, as well. So the next time you see your toddler smearing their green beans or sweet potato in their hair- try to think of the positive… at least it’s not pizza!
