The Workout: Hoopnotica Hoopdance Workout
The Rating: A
What It Is: Although she may not be a mother (yet), newly married pop starlet Beyonce is famous for her tight and toned midsection. According to Fit Sugar, Beyonce has recently become a fan of using a common child’s play toy for fitness: the hula hoop.
The Hoopnotica workout, mentioned in Makeover Momma’s Indoor Exercise With Preschoolers tips, is a cardiovascular and dance workout created around hula hooping. We recently tried this fitness craze, and were completely impressed with the results. We admit that the large, sturdy hula hoop from Hoopnotica is intimidating to novice hoopers such as ourselves (and although we considered buying a cheap, child’s hoop instead, it was well worth the investment.
What You Do: We at Makeover Momma have little to no skill at hula hooping, but we started off with the “Hoopdance Basics” DVD, and began to pick it up in no time. After a full session of basic hooping, we woke up the next morning to sore abs…lower backs…love handles. Basically, all the areas we can never seem to hit through standard crunches!
Make It Harder: Graduate or experienced hoopers can try the “Hoopdance Workout: Level 2” DVD, which incorporates the entire body using moves like “chest hooping” and “thigh hooping.” Even though it feel likes you are merely playing instead of working out, you’ll break a sweat while toning your core muscles. Our interest is all the more peaked by Hoopnotica’s latest program “Mommy and Me SuperHoopers Kit” which helps kids (ages 5 and up) try hula hooping with their parents. It sounds like the perfect way to play with your children during cold weather months, while staying active and fit…can we ask for more?
