Makeover Mommaâ„¢ Rating: B
Choosing loose and light-weight clothing seems ideal in the hot summer weather, but pulling off the bohemian styles of moms Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Liv Tyler (above) can be harder than you think.Although many mothers love wearing comfortable clothing and colorful patterns, it’s important to know your body (e.g. don’t show too much leg if it’s not your best feature), be smart with undergarments (light and breezy doesn’t mean you can skip the bra or show those pantie-lines), and color palette (go for patterns that bring out your best).
If you are a curvier momma (or wanting to conceal post-partum weight), go for a top with wiggle room (like Ashlee), that doesn’t accentuate your middle (try a Peasant Bubble Top). If you are long, lanky or can wear pretty much anything, have fun with flowing dresses and pops of color (or pick a more simplistic, flattering outfit, like this Loretta Printed Knit Dress). Make sure to avoid overdoing this trend, by keeping accessories chic, simple and structured (i.e. classic sandals or flats, a small clutch or delicate earrings). Pairing boho clothing with leather, large hobo bags or eccentric jewelry will make you look stereotype…not stylish.
